Dear Brethren and Co-Workers in Christ:
The Spring Holy Day season is upon us.
Passover is after sunset on April 18th in 2019. We have an online video service for Passover for those in areas without a local minister. Here is a link: CCOG Passover Service. Furthermore, some of you may wish to read the article: Keeping Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread.
The Days of Unleavened Bread themselves begin at sunset on April 19th of 2019 and run through sunset April 26th this year.
Night to Be Observed
The Days of Unleavened Bread begin at sunset on April 19th of 2019, and that evening will be the Night to Be Observed.
42 It is a night to be much observed unto the Lord for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the Lord to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations. (Exodus 12:42, KJV)
42 This is the observable night of our Lord, when he brought them forth out of the Land of Ægypt: this night all the children of Israel must observe in their generations. (Exodus 12:42, Original Douay-Rheims).
For Christians, the Night to Be Observed pictures our taking action to leave spiritual Egypt (cf. Revelation 11:8)–this is something that should cause Christians to rejoice.
Historically, the Night to Be Observed normally involved a festive dinner. The dinner normally included, but was not limited to, unleavened bread.
The Bible, in Leviticus 23:7-8 teaches that both the first and last days of unleavened bread are times for a holy “convocation” (NKJV), a “sacred assembly” (NJB). The evening of the fifteenth of Nisan (which begins that holy day) begins the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which involved eating (cf. Exodus 12:16; Leviticus 23:6). Some may wish to watch our video, The Night to Be Much Observed, Friday evening.
This year we have an animated video that some may wish to watch that evening:
What is it? When is it? The KJV refers to it as “THE NIGHT TO BE MUCH OBSERVED.” This scripture-packed animation includes background and specific information related to the children of Israel. It also gives some of the Old and New Testament prophetic ramifications of this event. How the NTBO is typically observed is also covered. The animation also includes a chart of scriptures and biblical dates to determine when that NTBO actually is. Furthermore, the animation provides information from the “Jewish Encyclopedia” which, through scripture, shows that many Jews have confused Passover with the “night to be observed.” This is a great animation to give background on the NTBO and is also appropriate to be watched on the NTBO.

Days of Unleavened Bread
We Christians recognize that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins on Passover and that we are to trying to live, as He did, without sin and hypocrisy, of which leaven symbolically can represent (Luke 12:1).
The late Herbert W. Armstrong wrote about this:
And, as the Israelites went out with a high hand (Numbers 33:3), in great exultation and elation over their deliverance from bondage, so does the newly begotten Christian start out his Christian life — up in the clouds of happiness and joy. But what happens?
The devil and sin immediately pursue after the newly begotten son of God — and soon the new and inexperienced Christian finds he is down in the depths of discouragement, and tempted to give up and quit.
Notice Exodus 14, beginning verse 10 — as soon as the Israelites saw this great army pursuing them, they lost their courage. Fear came over them. They began to grumble and complain. They saw it was impossible for them to get away from Pharaoh and his army, because he was too powerful for them. And they were helpless. So it is with us.
Our Strength Not Sufficient!
But notice the message of God to them through Moses: “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord … for the Egyptians … ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you”! How wonderful!
Helpless, we are told to stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord. He shall fight for us. We cannot conquer Satan and sin, but He can. It is the risen Christ — our High Priest — who will cleanse us — sanctify us — deliver us — who said He would never leave us nor forsake us!
We cannot keep the Commandments in our own power and strength. But Christ IN US can keep them! We must rely on Him in faith. Armstrong HW. God’s Holy Days-or Pagan Holidays-Which? Worldwide Church of God, 1976)
Purpose of Festival
But let us learn the full significance of this. WHY did God ordain these feast days? What was His great PURPOSE? Turn now to Exodus 13, verse 3: “…Moses said unto the people, Remember THIS DAY, in which ye CAME OUT from Egypt…” This was the 15th of Abib. Verse 6: “Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and the seventh day shall be a FEAST unto the Eternal… This is done BECAUSE of that which the Eternal did [a MEMORIAL]… and it shall be for a SIGN” — (miraculous PROOF of identity) — “unto thee upon thine hand, and for a MEMORIAL between thine eyes” — WHY? –”that the LORD’S LAW MA Y BE IN THY MOUTH… Thou shalt therefore KEEP this ordinance…”
Oh, beloved brethren, do you see the wonderful meaning? Do you grasp the true significance of it all? Do you see God’s PURPOSE? The PASSOVER pictures the DEATH OF CHRIST for the remission of sins that are past. The accepting of His BLOOD does not forgive sins we SHALL commit — it does not give LICENSE to continue in sin — therefore WHEN we accept it, our sins are forgiven only up to that time — PAST SINS.
But shall we stop there? Past sins forgiven. But we are still flesh beings. We still shall suffer temptations. Sin has held us in its clutch — we have been SLAVES to sin, in its power. And we are powerless to deliver ourselves from it! We have been in BONDAGE to sin. Let us understand the picture — the meaning. (Armstrong HW. What You Should Know About the Passover and Festival of Unleavened Bread. Good News, March 1979)
To what degree should Christians put away sin? Completely, as Jesus taught, “you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). Leaven symbolically can be a type of sin (cf. 1 Corinthians 5:7-8). Like sin, leaven puffs up.
As seven is God’s number symbolizing completeness, Christians are to follow the Passover with seven days of unleavened bread. The meaning and the symbolism is not complete with just Passover. Passover pictures the acceptance of Christ’s blood for the remission of past sins and the death of Jesus.
Should we leave Christ symbolically hanging on the tree of His death (cf. Galatians 3:13)? No. The seven days of unleavened bread following Passover help picture to us the complete putting away of sin, the keeping of the Commandments — after past sins are forgiven as the result of Jesus’ sacrifice.
The Days of Unleavened Bread picture the life and work of the risen Jesus. Jesus ascended to the throne of God where He is now actively at work in our behalf as our High Priest, cleansing us of sin (Hebrews 2:17-18) delivering us completely from its power!
Here is some of what the Hebrew scriptures say about the Days of Unleavened Bread:
15 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel. 16 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you. No manner of work shall be done on them; but that which everyone must eat — that only may be prepared by you. 17 So you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I will have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as an everlasting ordinance. 18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. 19 For seven days no leaven shall be found in your houses, since whoever eats what is leavened, that same person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a stranger or a native of the land. 20 You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.’” (Exodus 12:15-20)
Leviticus 23:6-8 teaches about it as well. And Deuteronomy 16:16 shows that offerings were expected to be given on the Days of Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, and the Fall Holy Days.
Originally, there were no “burnt offerings or sacrifices” when God “brought them out of the land of Egypt” (Jeremiah 7:22). They were added because of disobedience (Jeremiah 7:21-27) and the New Testament is clear that we do not need to have burnt offerings or animal sacrifices now (Hebrews 9:11-15).
As we eat unleavened bread each of the days, we realize that we have to avoid sin that is so prevalent in the world around us.
Were the Days of Unleavened Bread done away?
No.
Early Christians did not believe that the Days of Unleavened Bread were done away. The Apostle Paul endorsed properly keeping the Feast with unleavened bread (1 Corinthians 5:7). He and others still marked/observed it and observed it outside of Judea:
6 But we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days joined them at Troas, where we stayed seven days. (Acts 20:6)
If Christians were not keeping the Days of Unleavened Bread, the Holy Spirit would not have inspired this to be recorded like this. Now Philippi was a Gentile town in Macedonia. It was ruled by the Romans–thus keeping these days was NOT limited to a place like Jerusalem. In at least two places in the New Testament, we see that the Days of Unleavened Bread were to be kept in Gentile areas (1 Corinthians 5:7; Acts 20:6).
Consider also the statement “it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread” in Acts 12:3. Since the Gentile author Luke addressed the Book of Acts to another Gentile (Acts 1:1), why would he have mentioned these days if they were unknown to the Gentile Christians and had ceased to exist?
Perhaps it should be added that the spurious 3rd century Epistula Apostolorum claims Jesus taught His followers should keep the Days of Unleavened Bread until He returns. While we cannot rely on that document, it does indicate that some were keeping those days into the 3rd century.
Information from outside the Bible reports that the Apostles Paul, John, and Philip, along with Polycarp of Smyrna and other early Christians, kept the Days of Unleavened Bread (Pionius. Life of Polycarp, Chapter 2).
Despite this, Canon 38 of the Council of Laodicea of the fourth century (c. 363-364) prohibited the observation of the Days of Unleavened Bread. Those in the Church of God could not comply with many decrees of this Council which went against the Bible and the early traditions of the faithful.
Therefore, various Sabbath-keepers continued to keep the Days of Unleavened Bread afterwards (Pritz. Nazarene Jewish Christianity. Magnas, Jerusalem, 1988, p. 35; Jerome as cited in Pritz, pp. 58,62,63; Ephiphanius. The Panarion of Ephiphanius of Salamis: Book II (sects 1-46) Section 1, Chapter 19, 7-9. BRILL, 1987, p. 117-119) and into the Middle Ages and beyond (Liechty D. Sabbatarianism in the Sixteenth Century. Andrews University Press, Berrien Springs (MI), 1993, pp. 61-62; Falconer John. A Breife Refutation of John Traskes Judaical and Novel Fantyces, pp. 57-58, as cited in Ball B. Seventh Day Men: Sabbatarians and Sabbatarianism in England and Wales, 1600-1800, 2nd edition. James Clark & Co., 2009, pp. 49-50).
As we in the Continuing Church of God do not accept that the Council of Laodicea spoke for the true Christian church, we still keep the Days of Unleavened Bread. We eat some unleavened bread for each of the seven days as the Bible admonishes (Exodus 12:15; 13:6; 23:15; 34:18). This bread can be made of different grains/nuts—the use of wheat is not biblically-required.
(It perhaps should be mentioned that one can eat foods other than only unleavened bread during this Feast, it is just that no leavened breads are to be eaten. Also, unlike Passover, the first and last Day of Unleavened Bread are days, like the weekly Sabbath, that one is not to work.)
The Apostle Paul wrote:
27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. (1 Corinthians 11:27-29)
Paul is clearly teaching that to take this bread and wine, one must examine oneself. The deleavening (removing all the leaven) that is supposed to accompany Passover helps us focus on our faults and sins, and thus helps fulfill this command from Paul to examine ourselves. As deleavening can take lots of effort, this also supports the concept of an annual examination (people were not removing leaven every day or week).
While some like to allegorize away many portions of the Bible, although there certainly is a spiritual understanding to the Holy Days, there is also a physical one. And the physical observance helps us to better understand the spiritual lessons.
The Days of Unleavened Bread help picture that we Christians are to strive to put sin and hypocrisy out of our lives (cf. Matthew 16:6-12; 23:28; Luke 12:1). By keeping them physically, it helps us to better learn the spiritual lessons that God intended.
Unleavened Bread Recipes
There are many types of unleavened bread.
My wife Joyce tends to bake more during the Days of Unleavened Bread than she normally does the rest of the year.
Here is one of several recipes that she thought she would share:
Lemon Ricotta Bars
For the Crust:
2 cups organic flour
3/4 cup organic powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 1/2 sticks (or 12 tablespoons) melted unsalted butterFor the Filling:
1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
1 cup organic sugar
5 free-range eggs
3/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup organic flour
Zest of 1 lemon
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
powdered sugar for dusting the finished bars1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Make the crust: Combine the flour, powdered sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add the melted butter and mix until combined. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 13x9x2 inch baking pan. (You may need to dip your fingers into a little flour or powdered sugar to keep the dough from sticking to your fingers.) Bake for 15 minutes until golden, then set aside to cool. Reduce the oven temperature to 325 degrees F.
3. Make the filling: In a blender, combine the ricotta cheese, sugar, eggs, lemon juice, flour, lemon zest, and salt. Blend until smooth, then taste to make sure it is sweet enough for you. If it’s not sweet enough, add a bit more sugar.
4. Pour the filling over the baked crust and bake for about 30 minutes longer, until the filling is just set. Allow the bars to cool, then cut into squares and sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired. Store leftovers in a sealed contained in the refrigerator. Yields 20-40 bars depending on size.
Here is another:
Sesame Crackers
2 cups unbleached organic flour
2 cups organic whole wheat flour
3 tablespoons honey
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sesame seedsMix together flours, cut in butter. Add milk, honey and sesame seeds to make stiff dough. Roll thin and cut with knife into squares. Placed on greased baking sheet. Brush tops with milk and prick with fork. Bake at 400 F for about 10 minutes or until desired brownness.
Here is a third:
Unleavened Bread
4 tablespoons honey
1 cup oil
1 1/2 cups milk
6 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons saltBlend honey, oil and milk. Stir in remaining ingredients. Knead lightly. Roll on floured board with rolling pin. Place on cookie sheet. Cut in squares. Make a few holes in each piece with fork. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes.
There are other recipes. You can also see those received from Elder Alexsandar Veljic: Unleavened Bread recipes. This was also recently translated into Spanish as well: Recetas de Recuerdo.
Almont, Michigan
Deacon Richard Close was in Almont, Michigan last Sabbath.
Sabbath services in Almont, Michigan from left: Nadjia LaFontaine, Sharon LaFrance, Terry LaFrance, Richard Close, Steve Dupuie, photography by Ruth Dupuie.
In addition to conducting services, he also did baptismal counseling and conducted a baptism (Nadjia LaFontaine).
Kristy Gorman at baptismal location
Richard Close then went to Wisconsin and counseled and then baptized Kristy Gorman.
Here are excerpts from a report he sent me yesterday:
Overall the trip was excellent. Very good fellowship. Six were present @ Sabbath services at Almont MI. Terry and Sharron La France; Steve and Ruth Dupuie; Nadjia La Fontaine ; and myself. I counseled at some length with Nadjia … We then drove to the hotel in Imlay City and preformed the ceremony.
We all then went out for the evening meal. …
The next morning Steve, Ruth, and I had a nice breakfast and conversation. After verifying {a Western Michigan address}, I headed out. When I got about an hour from their home I ran into a nasty ice and snow storm that added an additional hour and a half to the trip. I anointed one there for back pain and anxiety. We then ate and visited about 2 hours. Several indicated an interest in baptismal counseling–I told them I would be glad to do that, but there was no time right then. I had a six hour drive to Madison, Wisconsin (not counting the snow delays). They offered to put me up overnight but I had to decline because I had reserved a hotel near Kristy’s office so that we could get together Monday morning. One of them came out with me and helped brush the 2 inches of additional snow from my car. As I headed toward Wisc., it was still snowing and blowing and no plows had been on Rt 31. When I got farther south there were some plow trucks on the interstate but still only partially cleared. Once I got to Indiana the roads were mostly clear but still snow covered everything off the roads. Even in Chicago the over passes (passing lane) were snow covered. The roads had been plowed going North but when I stopped for fuel up near Rockford they were still plowing the gas station and shopping area. About 5 inches. The next day I was told that Jaynesville area had a reported 9 inches of snow. By the time I got to the Wisconsin state line there was no snow anywhere. I got to the hotel about 11 PM. Monday morning was beautiful–clear sky–bright sun–26 degrees (that only lasted a couple of hours.
The hotel maintenance was working on the pool so we were held up a little while. We got together around 9:30 and talked until about noon and she stated that she was ready and I saw no need to delay. We took some pictures. I packed up and headed south to be thru as much of Chicago as possible before rush hour. Was involved is some stop and go traffic but was not terrible. I got to sleepy to drive in northern Ohio and pulled into a Plaza about 9:30 PM and slept 3 hours so I didn’t get to my inlaws home in Youngstown until about 3 AM. The drive home yesterday was uneventful. Saw on the evening news that they had confirmed 4 tornados in east central and northern PA. Planning on continued contact with all prospective members who are interested. Possible some could be baptized before the 2nd Passover.
It was a long, but successful, driving trip. Richard Close hopes to make another one or two later this year.
YouTube, Vimeo, and Brighteon
As many of you realize, within a few days of the official formation of the Continuing Church of God, we began to load videos on YouTube.
We have several channels we are using at YouTube currently:
CCOG Animations channel for animations.
Bible News Prophecy channel for sermonettes.
ContinuingCOG channel mainly for sermons.
CCOGAfrica channel mainly for messages from African pastors in African languages.
So far in 2019, we have seen increases in viewership of these videos on YouTube for the two middle channels. For the animation channel, the main increase in views has been coming from a promotion via Facebook from Andre Nelson.
Anyway, we have seen a massive increase in the number of YouTube channel subscribers. This past Sabbath, we hit a milestone in a sense as we reached 5,000 subscribers on the Bible News Prophecy channel, which is up from 3017 on June 14, 2018.
CCOG Animations had 56 subscribers, up from 25 on June 14, 2018. The ContinuingCOG channel had 1953 subscribers, up from 1519 on June 14, 2018. And the CCOGAfrica channel had 68 subscribers, up from 41 on June 14, 2018.
YouTube has stated that subscribers; tend to watch more of the videos of the channels they subscribe to. For us, it is sort of like free advertising as subscribers through YouTube get some type of notification when new videos are loaded to a channel.
We have actually never done anything to specifically attempt to increase YouTube subscribers and are pleased with the growth we continue to have in that area. YouTube actually sent us a warning in December 2018 that because of some new multi-national initiative they were having to clear up bogus subscribers, we should expect our number of subscribers to drop. But in our case, that did not happen. Instead our number of subscribers continues to go up.
However, this can change. Sadly, the most popular internet platforms are controlled by companies that tend to be antagonistic to biblical teachings on several aspects of morality, so we do not wish to be totally dependent upon YouTube.
As mentioned before, we are now using two platforms, other than YouTube, for our videos.
Bill Wedekind has been able to load all videos from the YouTube Bible News Prophecy channel to Vimeo and nearly all are now publicly available at: https://vimeo.com/channels/biblenewsprophecy
Vimeo is fairly popular and does not place advertisements on our videos. But they have policies against certain biblically-related positions, so they are not ideal for all of our teachings.
So, we also have another platform called Brighteon. Bill Wedekind has uploaded the current maximum number of our videos currently allowed at Brighteon. Brighteon seems more open to religious content than Vimeo or YouTube, but it 1) places small advertisements that we cannot control at the beginning of the videos and 2) it limits our number of videos based upon total viewership.
In the past, several of you have asked if there is a way you can help the work further. Well, if you would like to assist us with Brighteon, please go to: Brighteon Bible News Prophecy channel and, if you wish, watch each of the videos there (even if you have seen them before on YouTube). The more views we get, the more videos Brighteon will allow us to upload. Currently, we are at our limit. And we would like to upload, for example, a recent one on genders that we believe Brighteon will allow to be made public that Vimeo policies oppose.
Because of the limits with Brighteon, our current plan is to upload the more recent videos when the space is allowed. Unlike Vimeo, which does not have the same type of limits, where we uploaded all the YouTube Bible News Prophecy channel videos, we have no immediate plans to do that with Brighteon. But, for several reasons, we see Brighteon as a platform that is currently more likely not to try to censor us.
We know that a ‘famine of the word’ is coming (Amos 8:11-12), but still need to do the work when we can (John 9:4) and be prudent and wise about it (cf. Matthew 10:16-18).
Emails and Voice Messages
As a reminder, if you send an email and want something mailed to you or leave us a telephone message and want to be called back, please include your mailing address if you want something mailed (literature, anointed cloths, etc.) or your telephone number if you wish to be called back, even if you think we have it. We do not always have access to our computer files at all times, so even if you think we have your information, we may not have access to it. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
World News Items
The Paris cathedral Notre Dame caught fire and much of it was burned. French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to rebuild it “because it is what the French expect of us, it is what our history deserves, it is, in the deepest sense, our destiny ”(see Notre Dame on Fire). France’s ‘destiny’ is to temporarily support the rising church-state Babylonian power of Revelation 17. President Macron’s statement is consistent with that. Napoleon was crowned (technically he crowned himself) Emperor of France in the Notre Dame cathedral on December 2, 1804. Someone emailed asking who might be crowned in the New Notre Dame in the future? It is certainly possible that the Beast of the Sea will be crowned in a cathedral, and the New Notre Dame would seem to be a possible location (though there are other possibilities). Notice also the following news report:
A photo of a gilded cross gleaming through the smoke and haze after a fire ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has proven to be a symbol of hope following an unspeakable tragedy. https://www.aol.com/article/news/2019/04/16/powerful-image-shows-cross-shining-through-wreckage-at-notre-dame-cathedral/23712689/
Since it looks like a cross will be at least a symbol of the Beast, this cross image may be part of a motivator for people in France and the rest of Europe to want a type of church-state alignment. Let me add that two Roman Catholic commentators on a secular television station were discussing the Notre Dame situation, and that shining cross, and stated that they hoped that this would lead to a “reawakening” essentially of Catholic religion. A version of this will occur per Revelation 17.
As far as the church-state situation in Europe goes, former presidential advisor to US President Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, has tried to tell some Europeans that Pope Francis is the enemy (see Steve Bannon ‘told Italy’s populist leader: Pope Francis is the enemy’). This will not endear him or the USA to Europe. Particularly in light of the burning of Notre Dame which may spark more Catholic interest in Europe.
In other European matters, a new EU internet copyright law became official this week (see EU passes copyright law and ‘European politicians urge the EU to reject any US Middle East peace plan unless it is fair to Palestinians’). And while it has a two-year implementation window and supposedly exempts non-profits and small firms, the way it is written could impact what we report on YouTube and also what I report about at COGwriter.com. This is another step to Europe getting more control over the internet.
On Daniel 9:27 matters, both the European Union and Russia have indicated a willingness to help broker a peace deal in the Middle East (see EU passes copyright law and ‘European politicians urge the EU to reject any US Middle East peace plan unless it is fair to Palestinians’ and Could Russia Be the Broker of an Israeli-Palestinian Deal?). Although Russia is NOT the prophesied ‘King of the North’ (Daniel 11:40), it may well be involved in the deal of Daniel 9:27a.
Tensions still exist between China and Australia (see Tensions Erupt As China Slams Australia’s “Irresponsible Comments”). While the two trade a lot together (and China is Australia’s leading trade partner), this will not end well for Australia (see also Will the Anglo-Saxon-Celtic Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves?).
Suggested Holy Days Service
Here is a suggested holy day service for this week for our scattered brethren:
- 2-3 hymns (our songbook, The Bible Hymnal, contains the materials from the 1974 Bible Hymnal from the old WCG with new covers, plus ten additional hymns; there is also some Choral Accompaniment online).
- Opening prayer.
- Sermonette: Did Peter, Paul, & John keep Easter Sunday or Passover?
- Offertory: Unleavened Offering.
- Announcements (if any; though for many it will be this letter) and one hymn.
- Sermon, which for most who receive this letter via email will be a recorded one. The one suggested is by Steve Dupuie: Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread. Other sermons are also available at the ContinuingCOG channel.
- Final hymn.
- Closing prayer.
For those interested in two services, here is a suggestion for the second service:
- 2-3 hymns (our songbook, The Bible Hymnal, contains the materials from the 1974 Bible Hymnal from the old WCG with new covers, plus ten additional hymns; there is also some Choral Accompaniment online).
- Opening prayer.
- Offertory: Offering After Passover.
- Sermonette by John Hickey: Do Christians Sin?
- Announcements (if any) and one hymn.
- Sermon: Leaven and Sin. Other sermons are also available at the ContinuingCOG channel.
- Final hymn.
- Closing prayer.
Note: If you have a slow internet connection, you can watch these by starting the video, then below it (and towards the right) look for an outline of a gear–if you click on that, it will allow the YouTube video to be played with lower video quality, but at least it will not stop often–you can select a quality as low as 144p. If your internet connection is still too slow and/or you prefer audio messages to audio-visuals ones, go to the YouTube link for the message, click on SHOW MORE related to the description. You will then see something that says, “Download MP3.” Below that is a link to an MP3 file. Most computers (and even some cellular telephones) will allow MP3 files to be downloaded and played. This is an option we have made available (but we are also looking into ways to improve that as well)–and, of course, we have written article options. Some people have found that if their internet connections are not fast enough, that they can simply listen to the messages that are found at the Bible News Prophecy online radio channel.
IN CASE YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A ‘LETTER TO THE BRETHREN’ FOR ANY WEEK, REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE MANY SERMON MESSAGES ON THE ContinuingCOG channel AND MANY SERMONETTE MESSAGES ON THE Bible News Prophecy channel. There are also some messages at the CCOGAfrica channel.
Concluding Comments
The Apostle Paul wrote:
7 Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. (1 Corinthians 5:7-8)
Brethren, as Christians, we are to keep both Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread.
Sincerely,
Bob Thiel
Pastor and Overseer
